Trumpets Date Back to Ancient Egypt.
The first trumpet dates back to 1500 BC in Ancient Egypt, Greece and the Near East. It was recognized mostly for communication purposes during battles rather than music. It wasn't until the Romantic period during the Renaissance and Medieval times that trumpets were used for art such as literature and music.
Animal Horns Were Used As Trumpets.
Trumpets were made from conch shells and animal horns but, as music evolved, so did the trumpet. Instead of using natural materials to create trumpets, metal was used. The first trumpet, called the natural trumpet, had no valves and was basically a conical tube of metal with a flared bell. Different trumpets were used differently, coiled trumpets were used in the military whereas straight trumpets were used at ceremonies and royal processions.
Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel, Inventor of the Trumpet
Over time, the model of the trumpet improved. In 1814, Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel invented the trumpet in Berlin, Germany. In 1828, Jean-Hilaire Asté invented the valves for the trumpet. The valves have the ability to play each note on the chromatic scale.
Modern Trumpet
The trumpet originated from Afro-Asiatic, passed on through the Middle Ages in Europe to our modern time. Today, the trumpet is used in genres such as jazz, classical, rock, blues, pop, and mirachi.
